Hello and Happy New Year from Hickory Hollow Homestead!
It's been really cold here and as you can see we got some snow but not too much. We've been spending quite a bit of time inside the tipi. In fact you could say we have "tipi fever"… but then we knew it would be like this in the winter.
We've been staying warm enough during the day using the woodstove. Like I've said before, we don't stoke it up and try to have it last all night so it's pretty chilly in the morning when we wake up. It was 14 degrees today. Brrrrrr!
We can't wait until it warms up some to start working on our outside projects.
Wishing you the best in the new year and hope you get over tipi fever fast. I love your blog and I thank you for sharing your time at Hickory Hollow I love it!
Do you all live in Hickory county ?? That is where we live. We are 20 miles south of Warsaw. Our road is still real bad. We are getting mail though. If you should ever need help , send email.
I get house fever so I can only imagine what it must feel like to you. I think of the two of you often and I think my husband and I are older, so I know that we could not live in a tipi as you do. But, living off the grid is something we have wished to do for many years.
Maybe one of our sons will do it some day with their families. Best of luck to you and thank you for the postings.
Thanks for the good wishes everyone. We REALLY enjoy reading your comments.
Barbara – We’re not in Hickory County but hope your road clears up soon!
I think about you when Georgia and I walk past your old brick and mortar home once or twice a day.
It is cold here in Florida but at least no snow. Are you warm enough in the tepee? POLLY
I read about your plans and decided to “bookmark” your website – so please keep the posts coming – I’ll be a faithful reader.
I admire what you two are doing. Just curious, and probably a stupid question, but do you have an outhouse and an outdoor shower?
I truly enjoy your blog. My question is this: if it is 14 degrees outside, then what is the temp inside your tepee with no heat source running during the night?
Thanks!
Vicki
Hi Vicki, it was colder than 14 degrees F outside….it was 14 degrees F inside the tipi when we woke up.
